Get a load of Mr.BS

bullshitAlthough postings on eZee.se have been a little erratic lately due to a few secret back projects we are working on, we have been quite active on forums and discussions/blogs like Jon N’s P2Pnet/TF/Ray B’s RvP/Wired/Ars etc

Just a while back we were reading a very very informative article on Ars about the upcoming Tenebaum case, (click the above link… it’s worth it and opens up in a new window) when we navigated ourselves to one of the ‘critics of the Tenenbaums case’ blog from page three of the Ars article, a blog owned by a Mr.Ben Shiffner, whose initials ironically (as you will soon see) are “BS”… so we shall henceforth refer to him as Mr.BS.

After reading Mr.BS’ post; Ryan (one of the people who work on eZee.se) left a small comment on the BS blog:
“Perhaps you prefer the stunts of the RIAA which include suing printers…. and dead people?”

Surprisingly the comment was approved to be published on the blog and we Ryan and Mr.BS did a little back and forth… even more surprisingly Mr.BS stated he had no knowledge of the RIAA suing a person… who was dead at the time the alleged ‘infringement’ occurred, but he still stood by his RIAA pals as closely as possible.

Just as things were getting interesting Mr.BS pretty much stopped the discussion dead and refused to publish Ryan’s last comment stating:

To Ryan S.: I won’t publish your latest comment, which includes invective and name-calling. Feel free to try again if you can edit it down to the substance. There are plenty of other places you can post if you want to call the RIAA names.

Which in all instances would be fine, after all it IS his blog and he has a right to publish what he wants but it’s the excuse of why he won’t publish our comments that is a bit funny… especially since Ryan edited the comment a couple of times (as shown below) and resubmitted the comment.

ORIGINAL COMMENT

I apologize, i meant RIAA sues the dead and goes after printers, but I wrote sues in two places.

“And that there have been mistakes along the way.”

Thats pretty easy to say, if you forget even for a second that each “mistake” has the potential to ruin a person or families life (and has).

The printers screwup just goes to show how easy it is and has been for the RIAA to make huge mistakes but still presents its results as absolute proof to the world and judges who really dont have an idea of these “new fangled things” themselves.

They really dont have much of a clue as to how things work but are willing to totally ruin a persons life with it. While the printers ‘thing’ can be put down to “Clever academics trick system” what do you put down the fact of the RIAA stating that “Two Computers cannot effectively function if they are connected to the Internet with the same IP address at the same time.” Or was that another instance with an RIAA backed person “misspoke” (http://recordingindustryvspeople.blogspot.com/2008/01/according-to-cary-sherman-of-riaa-sony.html)

I would also like to quote you a small part of your original reply to my “sues the dead” part:
“..and the issue could be easily corrected”

The reason I quote the above is because when the RIAA make a “mistake” (to quote you again) they make no move to correct it unless forced to by the courts… example: Tanya Anderson (I can provide you with plenty of links here, but somehow i doubt you want me to).

The fact of the matter is, the RIAA’s whole “chase the end user” is/was based on going after unique IP addresses, going as far as to compare an IP address to a telephone number… which as an above average computer literate person (like me or anyone else) will tell you is nowhere close (I can provide you with links here as well).

I am not even going to go into how wrong it is for these multi-billion dollar corporations to go after struggling families for (on average $3-5k to) tens of thousands of dollars for a few songs worth less than 99c a tune.

While I can understand the RIAA “doing their job” (a phrase that many vile and disgusting people in history have hid behind) and are getting paid for it/are on the take for whatever they rake in, I personally think you should be ashamed of yourself taking sides with these despicable bunch of goons/gangsters with morals lower than a snakes belly when you are an educated man practicing law and in the position to actually make a difference for the better.

To call what Tenenbaum and his council are doing a circus but give what the RIAA have been doing for years (effectively giving them a free pass) is like swatting a fly but ignoring the huge amount of poop that an elephant just passed 12 inches away.

Edit 1

(Edited as you asked me to, have taken out some of the words I used to describe the RIAA but kindly leave this line)

{This edit had pretty much the same text as the original except for the paragraph below that had ‘offended’ Mr.BS}

One wonders, were we perhaps hitting a bit too close to home where there are few answers? Or because there were absolutely no honest ones?
