Movie MAFIAA Get 60 Minutes As Their Speakerbox
In what can only be described as shoddy propaganda and incompetent journalism the TV series 60 minutes aired nothing but studio sponsored propaganda complete with bogus facts and figures.
CBS’s 60 Minutes has made itself out to be more of a laughingstock than usual when it comes to “investigative reporting,” putting on an episode about “video piracy” that is basically 100% MPAA propaganda, without any fact checking or any attempt to challenge the (all MPAA connected) speakers, or to include anyone (anyone!) who would present a counterpoint. The episode is funny in that it contradicts itself at times (with no one noticing it) and gets important (and easily checked) facts wrong. And, of course, it basically mimics that old episode that history has shown to have been totally (laughably) false. – Techdirt
Although the ‘investigative reporters’ of 60 minutes were only too happy to eat up the ‘facts’ thrown by movie industry execs it didn’t go unnoticed by a lot of other blogs such as Torrent freak who had this to say:
The MPAA scored a victory last night when millions of people tuned in to CBS’s 60 Minutes. The ‘investigative’ news magazine ran a propaganda piece on movie piracy yesterday, allowing the MPAA to insinuate once again that organized crime and BitTorrent go hand in hand. … What bothered us the most is that the item conveniently mixed file-sharing with commercial piracy, while linking it to organized crime, human trafficking and child prostitution. This setup is a bit misleading to say the least. That aside, the claimed role that piracy plays in organized crime is based on an MPAA-funded study we have previously debunked.
It really is a shame when ‘investigative reporters’ from such a popular TV show seem to be as dumb as the anti-piracy morons – who wouldn’t be able to their anus with a magnifying glass and a map. Full stories and discussion: TechDirt TF
